Magical yearly Diner en Blanc sets the stage for Danielle Steel’s latest novel

What happens when incomparable storyteller Danielle Steel falls in love with an international culinary phenomenon? Magic. Released summer of 2016, the novel from the world-renown American author is based on Le Dîner en Blanc de Paris and it’s been a wonderful success already, having made the New York Time’s Best Sellers List.

“A year in the intertwined lives of three international couples who participate in a special dinner in Paris.” – New York Times, 2016

Magic is about life, loss, love and relationships. In Steel’s book, the reader embarks on a year-long adventure in which characters meet, dine and share an unforgettable moment together at what she calls the “White Dinner”. The event takes place in secret at different Paris landmark every year. Sounds familiar? Steel’s book captures the essence of Le Dîner en Blanc, while giving it her own creative flare. Relationships, friendship, and romance are at the heart of this novel, just as they are at the heart of the international event.

Le Dîner en Blanc, too, has been writing its own stories for years. Organizers in just about every city speak fondly about how strangers who meet at their events leave at the end of the night with new friends. And, yes, Paris is the City of Love. But Le Dîner en Blanc continues to spark great romances around the world. In a long list of the participating cities, there’s not one where hosts and guests don’t share in these kinds of stories and relationships. Proposals—even weddings—are not at all uncommon occurrences at Le Dîner en Blanc!

Danielle Steel has taken up a concept loved by tens of thousands of guests around the globe. She puts her writerly imagination to work on an already magical concept, sharing it with her incredibly vast readership. Although some of the specifics about the event differ, of course, Steel captures the concept of Le Dîner en Blanc, right down to her book’s title. “Magic” couldn’t be more perfect. At the end of the day, it is all the book and the event are about. And it’s always the people—the characters we know and, love in writing and in the real world—who bring Le Diner en Blanc concept to life.
